Sixty children and their families congregated at Grosvenor on Sunday for the final of Grosvenor’s Junior Growing Competition for Schools.
Ten local schools across Cheshire and North Wales took part in the popular competition and Grosvenor was once again delighted by the enthusiasm shown by the children and supported by the schools. Grosvenor supplied the plug plants, compost and plant pots required for successful growing and John Nightingale visited each school with tips and advice.
The six Gazanias chosen as the best from each school were judged in the final by Iain Wylie, managing director, together with Grosvenor’s mascot, GrosvenorMan, which proved to be a hard decision as there were so many very successful, healthy plants that had each been nurtured to a very high standard.
After much deliberation, Sammy-Jo Whitlow from Eccleston C of E Primary School, was judged to have grown the most successful Gazania and was presented with a selection of prizes from Grosvenor, together with £100 Grosvenor vouchers for her school.
“Sammy-Jo is an extremely worthy winner after caring for her Gazania perfectly and I am delighted to hear she has enjoyed every minute of it! Hopefully we have achieved our objective of showing the younger gardener the joys of growing and the sense of achievement created from such an interesting hobby,” commented Iain Wylie, managing director.
Runners-up, Anna Thompson and Grace Roberts from Christleton Primary School and Barker’s Lane Community School respectively, each won a trug full of gardening goodies together with £50 and £25 Grosvenor vouchers for their schools.
